Applications are made centrally at the Student Service Center. KIT participates in the dialog-oriented service procedure.
Application Portal KITBachelor Biology: Application and Admission
KIT participates in the dialog-oriented service procedure(hochschulstart.de) with its admission-restricted Bachelor's degree programs. This gives you the opportunity to apply for up to three admission-restricted degree programs at KIT.
In addition to the Abitur average and the subject grades for German, mathematics and biology, relevant professional experience or special achievements (e.g. success in Jugend forscht or internships) are also taken into account.
The procedure is governed by the admission regulations (pdf) Bachelor of Biology. (see also the official announcement on the amendment of the admission regulations dated 29.05.09)
The following documents must be submitted.
1. transcripts and other documents in transcript or copy, which prove the previous career, in particular the school leaving certificate or another equivalent university entrance qualification,
2. a written declaration by the applicant about any previous participation in a selection procedure at the University of Karlsruhe.
3. if special achievements are claimed, the corresponding proof.
- List (pdf) of the achievements that will or will not be considered can be found at
- Submission deadline for the WS July 15
- The selection procedure is carried out in the last week of July, so you can expect to receive a decision by the second week of August.
- Offer for students who have taken little or no chemistry in the upper school: There is the possibility of taking a corresponding preparatory course of the Distance Learning Center.
- Admission to the Bachelor's degree is primarily based on A-level grades. Completed vocational training (provided it is relevant, i.e. has something to do with biology) and practical experience can be claimed when applying and are rewarded in the form of bonus points. However, this is not weighted very heavily and only internships that last several months and are subject-related are taken into account - i.e. a taster week in a hospital or working in a retirement home do not count, but a six-month internship in a research institute does.
- Please note: Federal Voluntary Service is treated in the same way as the Voluntary Social Year and the Voluntary Ecological Year as well as development services abroad. These periods are therefore taken into account with half the number of bonus points (7.5). If you also have another additional service, the points are added up accordingly.
There are a lot of questions, especially at the beginning - we won't leave you alone with them:
The O-Phase is an offer from the student council before the start of the semester - here you will find out everything you need to know to successfully complete your studies, you will receive an introduction to Where? What? When? and How? of studying biology and you will also receive feedback on how well prepared you are for your studies and what you still need to work on and how to do this. Participation in the trial phase is voluntary - but if you don't take up this offer, you will certainly regret it later.
With the ExperiMentoring Program you will be accompanied and advised by experienced students during the initial phase of your studies.
Applied Biology is not a separate degree program, but a field of study within the Bachelor's degree program in Biology. To enrol on this course, please register for the corresponding crop practical course in the ILIAS course. (will be activated approx. 2 weeks before the start of the semester) The number of places is limited to 30 participants.
The legal basis for application is set out in the admission regulations (pdf) .
