Bachelor thesis
You generally have four months to complete your Bachelor's thesis following Module 8. The prerequisite is that you have achieved at least 120 CP. (The examination board decides on exceptions)
The Bachelor's thesis module is worth 15 CP. It consists of the Bachelor's thesis (12 CP) and a presentation (3 CP). The presentation must take place no later than 30 days after submission of the Bachelor's thesis.
Important: The Bachelor's thesis must be registered in CAS no later than 1 month after the start of the thesis. (See process below). The Study Commission also reserves the right to check laboratory books in individual cases to verify that experiments presented in the thesis have been achieved within the registered processing time. Results that were NOT obtained during the registered processing time (e.g. during laboratory visits preceding the work) must be marked as such.
Two reviewers must be specified in the application: The first reviewer must be a professor of Biology (see list of examiners). The second reviewer is usually the supervisor of the thesis; here, too, only one name on the list of examiners may be entered.
Fast Track option: As the Bachelor's thesis grade is important for the overall grade, you have the option of submitting your thesis by June 30 of the respective year, in which case we guarantee that the Bachelor's thesis grade will be entered by July 11 at the latest (the application deadline for Master's applications is July 15), so that you can apply with this grade. You can also apply for a Master's place without a Bachelor's thesis grade, but will then move down the ranking list.
To apply , please fill in the following linked form, send it off and sign the pdf file and send it to the first examiner for entry in the CAS.
If you are carrying out an external thesis, this must be approved in advance by the examination board(for the application for approval of the external thesis). In this case, you will need a confirmation of supervision in addition to the application. The confirmation of supervision must include the following:
The supervisor assures that the thesis will be supervised and that the necessary funds for work will be made available. Please also note the KIT information sheet - External theses (as of July 2017).
Please note the submission deadline, if the work is submitted too late, the work will be graded with 5.0! If the date of submission falls on a weekend, the thesis must be submitted the Friday before!
Please remember to sign the declaration of independence stating that you have written the paper independently and have not used any aids other than those listed in the sources. This declaration must be signed!
A printed version for the Registrar's Office is not required!!! Please upload your thesis with the digitally signed declaration of independence (IMPORTANT!) as a PDF (see below).
The digitally transmitted file must have the following format :
Lastname_Firstname_ Submission_Bio_BA.pdf
Example: Duck_Donald_Abgabe_Bio_BA.pdf
Scientific papers should be written in the style of scientific publications.
The Bachelor's thesis can be extended by a maximum of one month. Please fill out the form linked below to extend the examination deadline, send it off, sign the pdf file and send it to the chair of the examination board by email.
In exceptional cases, in which the student is not responsible for the extension, an extension can be granted in exceptional cases (in the case of prolonged illness with a medical certificate). However, this is only possible in an absolute emergency.
There is no printed version for the student secretariat!!!
